JOHN TONGUE

John Tongue is a 52 year old male who is currently going through a divorce and has become homeless as a result.  He has five children and until recently was living with his eldest son. Due to a change in his eldest son’s circumstances John has had to move into a family centre for the homeless with another of his sons who is 17 year old.  He has lived there now for three months and is anxiously waiting for Liverpool Housing to find him and his son permanent accommodation.

He has smoked 20 a day for 35 years and had numerous attempts at quitting in the past but has not really been very committed to it, so has relapsed as a consequence.  John has now started to notice that he can’t “keep up” with his 17 year old the way he used to.  John has decided to “get my life back on track”.  He has stopped drinking alcohol (although he didn’t drink to excess) decided to do some physical exercise and most importantly made the decision to stop smoking.

John wants to express that, “Even when life gets you down a ciggie is not going to change your situation.  My advice to anyone who is going through the same as me or worse is that you have a choice!  You still have the power to improve your quality of life and boost your finances just by simply stopping smoking.  This habit can be controlled.”

John has now successfully quit smoking and has been smoke free for two months.  Although it is early days and life is still tough for him at the moment, he relishes in the fact that this is one part of his life he has complete control of.
