Part Four

Over time my dad Cigar was the most popular especially when cigars reached Britain after the Napoleonic war in 1815.  However cigarettes (yes ME) started gaining popularity after British soldiers brought them back to Britain after the Crimean war from Turkey in 1856.
As the demand grew greater, the need to produce faster was important.  Up until now all cigarettes had been rolled and made manually.  In 1880 James A. Bonsack was granted a U.S patent for a cigarette machine and six years later it was James Buchanan “Buke Duke” who sponsored it.  The machine was a triumph and could produce 4,000,000 cigarettes per day (that’s a lot of me going around), just as well really as during World War 1, women started to find me attractive too.  I became popular in the film industry, and everyone thought it looked good to have me on their arm, or I should say in their mouth.
