Before going to Fag Ends Vincent Lowry, 55, used to smoke up to two packs a day – despite two heart attacks.

Mr Lowry, a BT engineer from Halewood, said his youngest grandchild Aaron gave him the incentive to stop.

“It was Aaron’s third birthday and the whole family was running around.  All of a sudden I was gasping and had to go out for a cigarette.  It made me decide there and then to give up.

My two grandchildren are so beautiful I want to see them grow up and cadge      money off me.”
